At Ideaworks we thrive on opportunities to create bespoke products for our Clients; this time we thought we would create one for ourselves. Herd, a custom built JBL speaker, is a testament to the diverse craftsmen we regularly work with. A collaboration of ideas, skills and materials expertly blended to create a truly unique speaker.

“Most of our Clients want their speakers to be invisible, however, occasionally we get a request for something really special” says Kevin Andrews, Founder of Ideaworks. “We have conducted numerous blind listening tests with Clients and the JBL M2 comes out top every time; it has become our favourite speaker too” adds Kevin.

After many years of collaborative working with Harman, Ideaworks were permitted to custom engineer M2’s waveguides for a Client; firstly with a polished 10 micron 24 carat gold finish. “It challenged us,” says Kevin “it also got us thinking about how else we could make these incredible speakers even more unique.”

The appeal of the M2 speakers is that they sound very natural, we decided to mimic this by creating a bespoke finish that was natural and organic. As JBL is a quintessentially US brand, it made perfect sense to wrap them in cowhide.

Come see Herd at ISE in Amsterdam between the 7th-10th February (JBL Professional’s Booth 1-F6).
